Anasazi Heritage Center

Anasazi Heritage Center is an archeological museum in the town of Dolores in Colorado. At the site are two archeological sites: Dominguez and Escalante Pueblos, which date back to the 12th century and were once the settlement of Ancestral Puebloans, an old Native American culture. Some of the 3 million artifacts and information about Anasazi and the other regional native people are exhibited at the museum. In addition to the displays, the heritage center also features a research library, museum shop, picnic area, educational resources, and a nature trail.

Since 1988, Anasazi Heritage Center was in operation and had been serving as the visitor center for the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, which is only 23 miles from the museum and is a protected area as it is home to more than 6,000 archeological sites. The Cliff Palace in Mesa Verde National Park is also an interesting place to visit as it was also built by the Ancestral Puebloans and is the biggest cliff dwelling to be discovered in North America. There are also lots of trails around the heritage center. While Farming Terrace Trail is an easy hike, Kilpacker Trail is a little bit challenging.
