About Travelodge Australia BY TFE Hotels Morning Bay
Travelodge Hotels Australia, owned and managed by TFE Hotels, operates 18 hotels representing 3,030 rooms across largest cities in Australia and New Zealand, including Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, Perth, Darwin, Rockhampton, and Hobart. The chain has a separate management from the Travelodge chain of the U.S. and the U.K.
The Toga Group first managed Travelodge Hotels Australia in 2005 before JF Meridian Trust bought half a stake of the chain for $126.9 million in a joint deal with NRMA for co-ownership. Mirvac Group later absorbed JF Meridian Trust which helped grew its first eight hotels to 13. Singaporean firm ICP in 2014, meanwhile, acquired the rights to Travelodge hotels in 22 markets across the Asia Pacific region, excluding properties in Australia and New Zealand. The brand rights were retained to NRMA and Mirvac. With a joint venture inked on the same year between the Toga Group and the Far East Hospitality, TFE (Toga Far East Hotels) was formed to manage Travelodge hotel brand in Australia and New Zealand, along with Vibe Hotels, Medina Serviced Apartments, Adina Apartment Hotels, and Rendezvous Hotels.
Early this year, the hotel chain has announced the initial construction phase of the Travelodge Hurtsville which is slated to open by 2020. The new hotel is a part of a redevelopment project in the southern suburbs of Sydney.
